University of Technology, Jamaica

• ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015

The Western Campus remains one of the University’s

key strategies for expanding course offerings and

increasing access to quality tertiary level programmes

in western Jamaica. The Campus currently offers

graduate, undergraduate and pre-university courses in

addition to professional and continuing studies offered

through partnerships with colleges and faculties at the

Papine campus. The Western Campus is comprised of

the following locations:

• Western Campus Head Office - located at 9 Market

St in Falmouth, Trelawny

• Dome Building - located at 17 Dome Street,

Montego Bay, St James

• Barnett Clinic/Caribbean School of Nursing - located

at 2 Cottage Close, Montego Bay, St James

Community Involvement

Students and staff participated in the annual Mo Bay

City Run a collaborative initiative which included tertiary

level institutions across the western region of the

island. The proceeds of this venture are in aid of needy

students within these institutions.

The Caribbean School of Nursing participated in

several community service events. These included the

annual volunteer project with the Community for the

Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) held September

20, 2014 at Tryall Club Hanover; Health Fairs and Expos

hosted by the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, the

Lion’s Club of Montego Bay and the MoBay City Run

5k Run/ Walk.

UTech, Jamaica students were also recipients of

Scholarships from the MoBay City Run for the academic

year 2014-15 and from the Rotary Club of Montego Bay.

Student Achievement

Students in the West have also distinguished

themselves through their academic and non-academic

achievements and by participating in or spearheading

various projects.

Illeania Barclay-Whittingham was a panellist in the

University Council of Jamaica’s students forum

themed “Strategies to Enhance the Student Learning

Experience” held in Montego Bay on March 13,

2015.

Akwayne Sylvester was the first recipient of a Wisynco

scholarship inclusive of internship as brand ambassador.

The scholarship was open to all tertiary level students

in the West.
