LINKAGES AND COLLABORATIONS
The Faculty of The Built Environment collaborates with
the University of the West Indies on the Caribbean
Energy Efficiency Project.
The Caribbean Network on Urban and Land
Management (CNULM) of the University of the West
Indies, St Augustine campus (UWI) brings together
universities, agencies and organizations involved in
Urban and Land Management across the region. It
does so by participating in a range of projects and
actions that foster inter-agency communication and
cross-disciplinary exchanges.
The latest project to be initiated by CNULM is an ACP/
EDULINK 11 project entitled Mainstreaming Energy
Efficiency and Climate Change in Built Environment
Training and Research in Caribbean (CarEnTrain). The
project, which began in October 2013 will run for a
period of 42 months, and will include the University of
Technology, as one of several implementing partners.
The overall objective of the project is to improve energy
security in the Caribbean and mitigate climate change
by reducing the consumption of energy resulting
from urban sprawl, inefficient transport system and
improving energy efficiency of building. It is projected
that an additional long-term benefit will be increased
collaboration between faculties of regional universities,
increased regional and international policy dialogue on
‘pro-people’ urban energy policy, and energy-sensitized
universities management policies. The UTech, Jamaica
team is led by Dr Carol Archer.
Awardees of Lincoln Fellowship
Members of the faculty were awarded the 2014
David C. Lincoln Fellowship in Land Value Taxation
for research on Property Tax compliance. The David
C. Lincoln Fellowship in Land Value Taxation (LVT)
was established in 1999 to develop academic and
professional interest in this area through the support of
major research projects. The ultimate aim of the project
is to increase property tax compliance in Jamaica.
Annual Faculty Awards
The Faculty’s Awards ceremony was held on March 26,
2015 on the Lawns of the Faculty. Special awards were
presented to seventy-eight (78) students, twenty-four
(24) of whom were on the Dean’s list. Awards were
also presented to seven (7) distinguished part-time
members of staff who served the Faculty/School for a
number of years in different capacities.
