In recent years, FELS through its School of Humanities
and Social Sciences has diversified its interest in
language education.
Foreign Languages
UTech, Jamaica, Jamaica DELE Centre:
UTech, Jamaica, Ja. has been a part of the network
of DELE (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language)
Examination Centres across the world and continues
to receive support from the Embassy of Spain as it
positions itself to meet the challenges of growth and
development. The Embassy has donated material for
preparation of DELE exams and paid exam fees for
DELE candidates.
Spanish f or Engineers:
The Spanish for Engineers module is being
redesigned and improved.
Mandarin:
Basic Chinese (Mandarin) is now being offered.
English as a Foreign Language:
English as a Foreign Language 1 was approved for
delivery starting in January 2015.
Psychology Symposium
The first staging of “In D Mind” took place in February
2015. The event was conceptualized as a forum in which
Psychology students could engage in a discussion with
persons from different backgrounds, personalities and
professions . For the first staging of In D-Mind, reggae
and dancehall artistes Gage, Charly Black, Teflon and
Vershon were the invited guests.
International Day
International Day was successfully staged on Thursday,
November 20 at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium. The
event showcased various language communities and
cultures. Representatives from the various embassies,
universities, language Institutes and high schools were
present.

BA CAT Student Wins Film Festival Award
David Johnson, final year student in the Bachelor of
Arts in Communication Arts and Technology (BCAT)
programme won the Best Silent Film Award for the
film Angels Versus Demons at the Lignum Vitae Film
Festival hosted by the Northern Caribbean University.
