• ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015

On July 10, 2014 UTech, Ja. in collaboration with

the JPS, officially commissioned its first Solar PV

system marking a watershed moment in the history

of the University. The event marked the culmination

of a collaboration with JPS which started in 2012, in

a bid to diversify the University’s energy mix and put

the institution on a greener path. The project has

not only helped to reduce the institution’s electricity

bill but is also used to train students of the Faculty of

Engineering and Computing and the Faculty of the

Built Environment.

The project, valued at approximately JD32 million,

includes 402 photovoltaic solar panels, 6 inverters and

one transformer. The system was erected on the roofs

of the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies (FELS),

Faculty of Engineering and Computing (FENC) and on

the front lawns. For the first seven months, June to

December 2014, the system produced 60.92 MWh of

clean energy, accounting for savings of US$22, 175.09.

Utilities Cost Savings

The CSEII continued to increase its influence on energy

conservation and efficiency behavior through Broadcast

and Screensaver Messages on Staff Computer

systems. The Figure below indicates the consumption

trends over the last two financial years.

Energy Consumption over Two Financial Years,

2013/2014 and 2014/2015 (Kilowatt hours and Billing)

A Draft Energy Plan for the University has been

prepared and is to be rolled out following consultations.
