Staff and students of the School have in recent years
become increasingly involved in the annual Jamaica
Observer Table Talk Awards, the stellar culinary event
of the year. SHTM was represented on Thursday
May 29, 2014 by a number of the School’s culinary
experts and over 50 of students who worked as
service staff for the function.
Five (5) SHTM students were granted scholarships
from the Jamaica Observer: three full final year
scholarships and two bursaries.
SHTM participated in the Jamaica Agricultural
Society’s Eat Jamaica Campaign 11th Anniversary
celebration on November 25th, 2014 at the Jamaica
4H Centre. Chef Karl Thomas’ presentation at the
Jamaica Stock Exchange Lunch Panel discussion
on January 22, 2015 was titled “The Caribbean
Competitive Advantage : Agriculture and the Culinary
Industries-The Key to Job Creation and Economic
Development”.
SHTM Day was held on March 24, 2015 under the
theme “A Sustainable Future-Global Challenges,
New Perspectives and Golden Opportunities in
Hospitality and Tourism Management. Final year
students presented their final research projects
during the day’s event.

LINKAGES AND COLLABORATION
The College of Business and Management (COBAM)
has collaborated with the Agency for Inner-city
Renewal (AIR) in Trench Town in support of a
community greenhouse project funded by USAID.
To add another dimension to the relationship,
students pursuing the Social Entrepreneurship
Module in semester 2 are required to do a Social
Entrepreneurship project in Trench Town jointly with
the Miracle Youth Club which is the youth club arm
of AIR.
In January 2015 the College received funding from
the Development Bank of Jamaica to the tune
of J$7.3 million to develop multimedia software
(U-Touch 2) intended to improve the learning of
the English Language among the deaf and hard-of-
hearing community.

The UTech,Jamaica/Jamaica National programme
under which a number of UTech, Jamaica students
are employed part-time was extended for the 2014-
15 academic year. Two students who worked with
the programme in the last academic year were
