UTech, Jamaica Unveils “Legacies” - 60th Anniversary Visual Art Exhibition and 60th Anniversary Mural

The Hon. Alando Terrelonge, MP,  Minister of state, Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport examines the painting titled, “Obatala:  The Valiant Warrior” by Akindele Hickling, member of staff, CSA which is on display as part of the University of Technology, Jamaica’s 60th Anniversary Visual Art Exhibition, “Legacies” unveiled by the Centre of the Arts at the Papine Campus on Thursday, April 5, 2018.  Dr. Winston Campbell, Curator and Visual Arts Educator, explains more about the art piece to the Minister. 

Minister Terrelonge delivered an address at the Opening Ceremony held at the Centre for the Arts and declared the Exhibition officially opened. The exhibition features a fusion of art pieces demonstrating contemporary visual art, architecture and engineering compositions by UTech, Jamaica staff, current students and alumni.  The Legacies exhibition is open to the University community and the public and will run from April 6 – 20, 2018 at the Centre for the Arts, Monday to Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Do go see!

60th Anniversary Mural:   The Hon. Alando Terrelonge, MP, (right), Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport admires the University of Technology, Jamaica 60th Anniversary mural at the Centre for the Arts building, UTech, Jamaica Papine Campus.  The mural was done by UTech, Jamaica students.  The mural was unveiled on Thursday, April 5 as part of the “Legacies” exhibition.  Also admiring the mural from left are, Mr. Philip Clarke, Director, Centre for the Arts, Mr. Hector Wheeler, Associate Vice President, Advancement and Dr. Winston Campbell, Curator and Visual Arts Educator, UTech, Jamaica.
