Volume 3, Issues 4 January –April 2020 University of Technology, Jamaica J amaica School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) student, Rayvon Stewart has grabbed the attention of the world with his invention Xermosel which has been recently touted as a welcomed tool in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 Coronavirus. Xermosel is a simple device that uses ultraviolet light technology to kill bacteria found on door knobs, thereby reducing the risk of an individual contracting a germ upon contact. The innovation would be particularly useful in public spaces such as hospitals and health care facilities in reducing the spread of bacteria and viruses. P rofessor Stephen Vasciannie, CD, President of the University of Technology, Jamaica on Thursday, January 30, 2020, presented sixty undergraduate and four graduate students with $6.4 Million in scholarships at a ceremony marking the 2nd annual UTech, Jamaica 60th Anniversary Scholarship Presentation, held at the Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus. The scholarships, valued at $100,000.00 each, were awarded to outstanding students of the University’s three colleges and five faculties who attained outstanding Grade Point Average (GPA) scores of above 3.5 in the Academic Year 2018/2019.
