UTECH, JAMAICA CLASSIC SERIES

UTech, Jamaica Knights Volleyball

The Volleyball Classic was held over a two-day period

(January 29 – February 1, 2015) at the Sangster

Auditorium. This event was sponsored by HiLyte, the

UTech, Jamaica Student’s Union and the Department

of Sport. A total of 20 teams from 10 high school and

10 clubs/institutions entered the competition.

UTech, Jamaica Knights Table Tennis Classic

The Table Tennis Classic was held under very difficult

circumstances but nevertheless produced two good

winners. Kane Watson of UTech, Jamaica won the Men

singles A. Phillip Drummonds won over Mark Phillips in

the Men Singles B.

UTech, Jamaica Track and Field Classic

The 8th annual UTech, Jamaica Track and Field Classic

was concentrated into a five-hour meet, from 4:00pm

– 9:00pm, repeating the format that was used in the

previous year. Fewer high school entrants and a smaller

number of events than in previous years allowed for

a more structured and exciting meet. Overseas

participants represented Namibia, Colombia and

Barbados.

Increased sponsorship, ticket sales and the quality of

the participating athletes resulted in the meet being

successful both in terms of the financial outcome and

the performances on the track. Half-price tickets to

UTech, Jamaica students boosted support from the

UTech, Jamaica population and the appearance and

outstanding performance of some stars contributed

to an exciting event. The 100m Invitational event saw

Kemarley Brown battling with Julian Forte of UTech,

Jamaica and defeating Olympian Kemar Bailey-Cole

and others to claim first position. Olympian and World

record holder Usain Bolt’s appearance to compete

against Nesta Carter, and Rusheen McDonald in the

200m Men’s Invitational was a big crowd pleaser, as

was Elaine Thompson’s world leading time of 10.92

over 100m.

Thrilling Clash of Champions at UTech, Ja.’s 8th Track and

Field Classic

The 8th staging of the UTech International Invitational

Track and Field Classic held on Saturday, April 11, 2015

at the National Stadium was nothing short of thrilling

and exciting, with several records toppled and winning

performance by participating athletes.

Shimayra Williams passes the baton to Chanice Bonner on their way to
