The monthly online campus newsletter, The UTech,

Jamaica Communicator continued to be a major source

of news on achievements and developments at the

University for our internal and external stakeholders.

The publication was made available via the University’s

Website, social media pages and dispatched to Alumni,

University Council, institutional partners and other key

stakeholders.

ALUMNI RELATIONS OFFICE:

The Alumni Relations objectives are three-fold

• To connect Alumni to the University

• To connect Alumni to each other and

• To connect Alumni to the current student body

Ongoing and refined data collection and analysis has

improved\the ability of the Alumni Relations Office

to profile alumni according to their skill areas and job

titles, which is helpful when the University requires

support through sponsorship, subject matter experts

or advocacy.

Connecting Alumni to the University

During the period the reach and engagement between

the University and its Alumni constituents was

significantly expanded through a variety of social media

and in-person options. Social Media Engagement

experienced increases in membership/viewership

across all Social Media platforms ranging from 6.1%

- 128%, with the highest engagement reflected on

Twitter, LinkedIn and the Blog.

The Alumni Relations Office supported the Division

of Student Services and Registry with graduation

preparation for the Class of 2014. The Office contributed

Alumni Association membership applications forms

and alumni tokens to the graduation packages and

addressed the graduates on the benefits of remaining

connected to their alma mater.

Alumni involvement was invited in a variety of situations

which provided personal and professional opportunities

through which to connect to the University, for

example:

• Alumni booth representation in conjunction with the

Marketing Department at the Denbigh Agricultural

Show 2014 and Orientation 2013.

• Personal and Professional Development Workshops,

Socials, Networking Events, Job Search and Career

Management Consultations.

• Support was provided to the alumni affiliates e.g.

Alumni Association, Chapters and Special Interest

Groups and faculties, by promoting their events to

the alumni community and connecting alumni with

the affiliates to increase membership.

Connecting Alumni to Each Other

The Alumni Office launched an online Job Club on

Facebook to foster networking among alumni with

interest in job search, personal, professional and

business development tips. The club is moderated by

alumni volunteers and attracted 400 members. The

Office also directly networked alumni with various

needs with each other to receive support on various

issues, resulting in strengthening of Association, and

Chapter support and networking on job opportunities.

Connecting Alumni to the Student Body

The Student Services/Alumni Relations joint

coordination of the University’s Mentoring Programme

proved to be very successful, resulting in the University

attracting 120 mentors. This is the first time in

the history of the Mentorship Programme that the

University has attained and exceeded a 100 mentor

cohort.

Alumni enjoy a game of dominoes at an Alumni Relations Lyme at Lillian’s

Restaurant.
