Canadian High Commissioner Visits UTech, Jamaica

On Thursday, November 30, 2017, Her Excellency Laurie Peters, the Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica, paid a courtesy call on University President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie, CD at the University’s Papine Campus. High Commissioner Peters, who has formally been in office in Jamaica for approximately two months, was accompanied on the courtesy call by Mr Richard York, Trade Director at the Canadian High Commission.
In their meeting, High Commissioner Peters, Mr York and Professor Vasciannie discussed a variety of issues, but concentrated primarily on partnership opportunities between the University of Technology, Jamaica, on the one hand, and the Canadian Government and Canadian Universities, on the other. General comments were also shared on the current links between the University and Canadian institutions, and on points of emphasis in Canadian international programmes of assistance.
Among other things, the discussion also touched on matters of current interest to the University, including institutional accreditation, consolidation of programme offerings, the need to enhance IT infrastructure and the question of parity.
