Expectations of the UTech Student Leader

Being a student leader is a unique responsibility that involves enthusiasm, commitment, dedication to community work, and a desire to help the student body in its continuing development. It is also an opportunity for the individual to take risks and grow personally as a leader and peer educator. Leadership is not about a student’s title as much as it is about the capacity to influence positive change.

 Positive change agents are individuals who are committed to realizing a vision that enhances the communities they are a part of. Their ability to influence change stems from a sincere desire to improve the lives of those around them in meaningful ways. The University of Technology, Jamaica, takes pride in its student leaders. The student leaders we develop at the university are trained to be agents of positive change, through the leadership programme. The students are engaged in specific leadership-related topics such as;

  1. Government and the political system,
  2.  Holistic wellness and civic responsibility,
  3.  Dining and social etiquette,
  4.  Ethics and integrity,
  5.  Oral and written communication skills.

As a student leader, each day you will be responsible in small ways for many people. Each member of our University community is a leader in some way, for someone.
