POSITION DESCRIPTION:
 
The Vice Dean is the senior academic officer within the College/Faculty, assisting the Dean with the administration of the College/Faculty. The Vice Dean is also responsible for the
organization, development and maintenance of the Faculty’s academic quality management and standards and for the facilitation and strengthening of research, including technology transfer activities and projects.
The incumbent serves as the principal point of contact between the College/Faculty and students and works closely with Heads of School/Department and other senior staff to identify and address the full range of academic and administrative concerns within the College/Faculty.
 
IDEALLY, THE CANDIDATE SHOULD:
  1. Be an Associate Professor or a Professor with an earned PhD or equivalent professional qualification in a discipline or related area offered within the College/Faculty.
  2. Have appropriate teaching and or research experience at the senior level
  3. Have a proven record of academic administrative management with progressive levels of responsibility.
  4. The ability to promote leadership and vision and effectively lead collaborative change.
  5. A demonstrated commitment to student-centred learning, rigorous academic standards and to promoting an innovative teaching and learning environment.
 
REMUNERATION
 
Compensation will be in accordance with the University’s compensation policies and guidelines.

This is a responsibility post, and the appointment will be for three (3) years with the possibility for re-appointment for a second term or part thereof.  Persons who have served one term in the post are eligible to apply.
