* How long is the test?
The test is 2.5 (2 1/2) hours long. You must report to your campus at least an hour (1hr) before the start of the test.
* Do I need to study for this test. How is it structured?
No you do not need to study for this test. However, it might prove beneficial if you refreshed your knowledge of essay writing, grammar and mechanics and answering comprehension questions
The test has two papers.
Paper 1 - You are required to write an essay on a given prompt
Paper 2 - Paper 2 has two sections:
Section A: Comprehension - You will be given three (3) short passages to read and five (5) questions will follow each passage. Recommended time for Section A is one (1) hour.
Section B: Grammar - You will be given two (2) close tests, each with five (5) completion sets. Recommended time for this section is thirty (30) minutes.
Paper 2 is entirely multiple choice.
* What do I need to take with me on the day of the test?
It is important that you have the following with you :
Receipt showing English Language Proficiency Test as verification of fee payment;
A valid photo ID with photograph (school or work ID, passport, National ID, passport sized photograph certified by a Justice of the Peace or Notary Public);
A working pen and a number 2 pencil
* What happens if I am late for the test?
You will be allowed to sit the test if you are no more than 1/2 hour late. No extra time will be given to students who arrive late for the test.
If you go over the above mentioned grace period you will have to sit the test in another session
* How long do I have to wait for my test results and where will they be posted?
Grades will be available approximately two weeks after sitting the test. You can view results on the UTech Jamaica website (on this current page).
* What happens if I fail the test?
If you fail the test you will be required to register for Developmental English at a cost of $15, 000. If you pass the test, you can register for Academic Writing 1
* How can I be granted an exemption from this test?
You can be granted an exemption if you have:
• a Grade 1 pass in CSEC English A or an A in GCE O’Level English
• a Grade 1 or 2 pass in CAPE Communication Studies or GCE A’ Level English
• successfully completed an undergraduate degree from a recognized university
• diploma from a Teachers’ College or an associate degree from a recognized tertiary institution
• successfully completed the 1st year communication modules at a Community College or Franchise associated with UTech
* What is the cost of this test and where can I pay this fee?
The cost of the test is $3, 000. This fee must be paid before the day of the test as you will need to show your receipt. Please ensure that the receipt specifically states English Language Proficiency Test

• Required Information:
Along with the J$3,000.00, please provide the agent’s teller/cashier with the following information:
□ candidate’s name
□ candidate’s ID#
□ purpose of payment (English Language Proficiency Test at UTech, Jamaica)
NB. The receipt must say "English Language Proficiency Test at UTech, Jamaica"

* How do I go about registering to sit the test?
Just enter your name, e-mail address and the student number (ID) that you are given in your commitment letter from UTech Jamaica, then choose the day and time that you would prefer to sit the test
