Call for Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The University of Technology, Jamaica will host its 11ᵗʰ Caribbean Sport Science Conference through the Caribbean School of Sport Sciences (CSOSS) at its Papine Campus on Friday, April 4, 2025. The conference will take place under the theme “Re-engineering Sports for the Future: Administration, Coaching, and Sustainability for a New Era." This highly anticipated event aims to address critical areas such as innovative approaches to sports administration, advancements in coaching methodologies, and sustainable practices that align with global trends. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants will explore strategies to enhance the development of sports within Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the conference seeks to pave the way for innovative solutions and contribute to the long-term growth of sports as a vital component of national and regional development.

You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral presentation or poster presentation. Submissions should align with the conference theme and may be categorized under the following subthemes:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Abstracts must not exceed 250 words and should be structured as follows: aims/objectives, methods, results, and conclusion. The conclusion should clearly present the key findings of the study.
  • Submissions should be in font type: Times New Roman, font size:12 pt, with line spacing of 1.5 justified with keywords at the bottom of the abstract.
  • A word count must be included at the end of the document.
  • The document should be organized with the title at the top along with the name(s) of all authors and the institutions to which they are affiliated.
  • The corresponding author, along with his/her email address should be included.
  • There should be no tables, figures, pictures, graphs, etc. in the abstract.
  • The abstract must be well-written and free of grammatical errors.
  • The scientific validity of the research will be assessed, including the clarity of the stated objectives and the adequacy of the methodology to address those objectives.
  • Data analysis must be thorough, with results clearly presented and including tests for significance where applicable.
  • The type of abstract being submitted, whether for an oral presentation or a poster, should be clearly indicated in the submission.

  • A cover letter must accompany the abstract, confirming that all authors have agreed to the submission and have granted permission for the abstract to be published as part of the conference proceedings in the Journal of Art Science and Technology (JAST).

  • All correspondence will be directed to the corresponding author via the email address provided.

  • Acknowledgment of receipt of abstracts will be sent within three (3)working days and the decision made communicated two weeks after receipt acknowledgment.
  • Authors of accepted abstracts are expected to complete registration by March 26, 2025.

 

ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

  • Presenters will be allotted a maximum time of 15 minutes for their presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers.
  • Presenters should keep slides simple and uncluttered using high-contrast colors for readability (e.g., dark text on a light background)and fonts that are clear and professional (e.g., Arial, Calibri).
  • Presenters should submit their PowerPoint presentation by Wednesday, April 2, 2025, by email at . Presenters should take a copy of their presentation on a USB drive as a backup on the day of the conference.
  • Presenters should ensure that they are present at the conference least 30 minutes prior to the start of their presentation
  • Presenters should provide their contact details for follow-up questions from attendees.


POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

  • Posters will be on display at the conference on Friday, April 4, 2025.
  • Authors are required to be present by their posters during the poster viewing sessions to address any questions.
  • Authors are required to submit their posters for display by 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Faculty of Science and Sport (FOSS) Main Office, at the UTech Papine Campus located at 237 Old Hope Road. Alternatively, authors may opt to hang their posters on the day of the conference, Friday, April 4, 2025, at 7:30 am.
  • All posters are to be taken down at 5:30 pm on April 4, 2025.
  • Poster dimensions: width 3ft by height 5ft.
