23 April – June 2022 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica The 2022 cohort of the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies’ Bachelor of Arts in Communications Arts and Technology (BACAT), presented the virtual exhibition of their work on May 3, 2022, under the theme “Media Magnified, Looking through the Lens of the Creative”. Hosted via University of Technology, Jamaica’s official YouTube channel, the exhibition featured various showcases in audio-visual, print and other media, and forms part of the final assessment for the final year students of the BACAT course of study. Professor Shermaine Barrett, Dean, Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies, in her introduction noted that the exhibition provided students with the opportunity to “develop additional competencies”, which will serve them in “more ways in this ever expanding digital economy.” Greetings were brought by Her Excellency Emina Tudavokic, High Commissioner of Canada in Jamaica and Mr. Bobby Adelson Jr., Public Affairs Officer, United States Embassy in Kingston, Mr. George Davis, Deputy News Editor, Nationwide News Network, in his greeting, also gave an “insider’s view” presentation on the ever-changing industry of media and communications, urging students to do their best to be prepared for the “real world”. The exhibition also featured guest speaker Miss Debbie Bissoon, motivational speaker and media personality who recounted her journey through the media industry; a panel discussion featuring media practitioners and personalities Kadeen Brown, Orane Hart, Tashara-Lee Johnson and Talia Soares and interviews with final year students whose exhibitions were on display. A digital yearbook was created by Daniel Mullings, final year BACAT student.
