Sixteen girls, ages 13 to 19 years old attended the camp, representing the communities of Bedward Gardens, Kintyre, August Town, Gordon Town, Dublin Castle, and Landlease. The majority of the teens were “repeat campers” as they attended the first camp which was held in July 2019. The Department continues to host camps of this nature as we aim to impact the lives of the underserved in our communities. Among the Camp’s objectives is to inspire change in attitude and reverse some of the negative effects of socialization in some urban spaces. A variety of speakers addressed the campers on topics such as gender violence, good hygiene and etiquette, career planning and teenage pregnancy. The girls were also introduced to basic animation over the 3-day period which was facilitated by the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT). The NCB Foundation also donated packages to the participants which included hand sanitizers, books and stationery.
