VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | September - December 2020 22 Renowned Jamaican Entrepreneur Donates Book UTech, Jamaica Receives Donation of Engineering Books T he University on December 17, 2020 received copies of The Will to Overcome – Reflections on Circumstance, Vision, Service authored by renowned entrepreneur, Mrs. Audrey Hinchcliffe, Chief Executive Officer, Manpower & Maintenance Services Limited at a presentation at the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) UTech, Jamaica Papine Campus.The book, which is a compendium of speeches documenting Mrs. Stewart-Hinchcliffe’s philosophy of innovation, advocacy and service, contains a professional profile and biographical elements and also serves as a resource of ideas and reflections on her fifty-year entrepreneurial journey. Mr. Nigel Cooper, Head, Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL) noted that the presentation of Mrs. Stewart-Hinchcliffe’s book is especially beneficial as her “personal entrepreneurial characteristics” are presented to students among examples of successful local and international entrepreneurs. He explained that students are encouraged to read stories of entrepreneurs such as Mrs. Stewart-Hinchcliffe to learn more about their challenges and successes in an attempt to identify what has made them successful. I n October 2020, Mr. Dalton F. Yap, entrepreneur and author, donated over 50 books to the University’s Faculty of Engineering and Computing. The books cover electronics, control systems, radio technology, business and data communication, databases, telecommunications and computing. When contacted, Mr. Yap indicated that UTech, Jamaica was his institution of choice due to their reputation for turning out work-ready practical students. He expended considerable effort to get the relevant contact information and arrange for delivery of the books to the Faculty. The books are of particular interest and use to the short professional courses offered by the Faculty.
