Voices Magazine Vol3 Issue 5

11 May – August 2020 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica “I must say that despite the semester coming to an abrupt end for face-to-face teaching, I was not placed at a severe disadvantage in terms of my studies. As a student of the law we are always ahead on our preparations for courses and most courses were just about completed. The transition to a video conferencing platform to finish off the remaining lecturers was quite an experience that we were not entirely equipped for. Personally, I do not enjoy the online methods of teaching as much as I do with the face-to-face interactions.” Dennis Palmer 3rd Year, Bachelor of Laws, Faculty of Law “My experience with online teaching and learning towards the end of Semester 2, following suspension of face to face classes was challenging, yet manageable. At the beginning, I had little and no access to internet services and very little notes due to unexpected change in my location. However, I made the effort to keep connected with my lecturers and tutors as well as my classmates. Overall, my experience during this time was good and beneficial because I was able to be flexible to accommodate my new normal and complete successfully all my modules’ assignments and assessments despite the very close deadlines.” Kimberly Gordon 4th Year, Bachelor of Science, Actuarial Science, Faculty of Science and Sport STUDENT VOICES “My experience with online teaching and learning towards the end of semester 2 was great. My lecturers still managed to deliver the lessons effectively and I have learnt a lot during that time. The lecturers at UTech, Jamaica are brilliant, so I knew that they would continue to deliver the lessons successfully.” Garth Reid 3rd Year, Bachelor of Science, Mathematics & Education, Faculty of Science and Sport
