23 January – April 2020 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica T he 2019 Master of Architecture Urban Study Tour of The City of London sought to identify the unique qualities of urban form through a study of the morphology and typology of varied urban elements and to analyze how buildings and public space have shaped the city-scape, for example, how the public and private realms are designed to enliven and provide identity to the architecture of cities. The unique history of the Roman City Londinium dating AD50 along with contemporary 21st Century high-rise architecture posited unique research questions and relevance to the Caribbean context; the temporality of built form, value and the impact of increased vertical densities on the public realm in urban regeneration. The Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA) collaborated with the University College London’s Urban Laboratory, Institute of Archaeology and The Bartlett School of Architecture as well as the Royal Institute of British Architects, Black Cultural Archives, Historic England Offices, Nicholas Hare Architects and other architectural practices.
