9 April - June 2019 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica Cont’d from page 9... 6 th Annual Joan Duncan Memorial Lecture Supporting Young Innovators Visiting Delegation from China Pays Courtesy Call Mrs. Patricia Sutherland (2nd left), Chairman, JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation presents a cheque from the JMMB Trust Fund to Rayvon Stewart, UTech, Jamaica School of Computing and Information Technology student who was part of the winning team - XERMOSEL in the recently held UTech, Jamaica 2019 Business Model Competition hosted by the University’s Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL). Representatives from Yunnan University of Science & Technology and Yunnan Province paid a courtesy call at the University of Technology, Jamaica on April 12, 2019. The visiting delegation was met by University President Professor Stephen Vasciannie, Professor Nilza Aples, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Computing and members of the School of Engineering. The visitors were accompanied by Ms Irene Cousins, who helped to organize the visit and Mr Clinton Chin from the China/Jamaica Friendship Association. The discussion in the meeting centred on the possibilities of collaboration between both universities especially in areas of Engineering. The delegation from Yunnan was led by Zhang Ze Jun, Party Secretary and First Vice President of the University (6th from left). In addition to the President and Dean Aples, the members of the UTech, Ja team were Dr Theresa Chambers, Dr Earle Wilson, Dr Marva Blankson and Ms Paula Henry. The JMMB Trust Fund made the contribution to The JDSEEL to the tune of $1.7 million to defray the cost of sending two UTech, Jamaica teams and coaches to the International Business Model Competition held in Utah, USA in May 2019. Sharing in the presentation (from left) are Professor Paul Golding, Dean, College of Business and Management, Mrs. Donna Duncan-Scott, Group Executive Director, Culture and Human Development, JMMB Group and Mr. Nigel Cooper, Head, Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Technology Innovation Centre, UTech, Jamaica Papine Campus.
