Wayne Cross (right), Director of IT Security and Operations, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Toronto, Canada makes a presentation to Dr. Sean Thorpe, Head, School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) /President of the Jamaica Computer Society at the Jamaican High Commission in Toronto, Canada. The School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT), Faculty of Engineering and Computing received 102 reconditioned computers donated by the Canadian law firm Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG). The computers were handed over to UTech, Jamaica at a special ceremony held at the Jamaican High Commission in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, May 23, 2019. The donation was accepted by Dr. Sean Thorpe, Head, SCIT who is also President of the Jamaica Computer Society. Dr. Sean Thorpe noted that the computers will assist in the delivery of the two new SCIT specialized degrees in Computer Network Security and Computer Information Systems, as well as the existing degree in Computing. He also noted that other the areas for which the donated computers will be put to good use include, engaging in projects in cyber-security, data analytics, and Intelligent systems. “We will also seek to leverage the donated resources to drive learning centers for public engagement with high schools to prepare for opportunities under our CSEC curriculum, as well as national events such as Girls in ICT Hackathons, among other initiatives,” he stated. T he Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA), Faculty of The Built Environment showcased excellence in architectural design in its annual exhibition of student work during the months of May to June 2019.
