19 April - June 2019 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica T he University community heartily congratulates the 2019 Canadian Student and Faculty Exchange Program (SEP) awardees who have been selected by the Government of Canada through the Canadian High Commission, Kingston to participate in short exchange programmes at various Canadian institutions of learning. Eleven awards have been made to the University of Technology, Jamaica. The group of scholars comprises 6 students from the Faculty of Science and Sport and the College of Business and Management who received the Emerging Leaders in the Americas (ELAP) Scholarship to Brandon University, Manitoba, and Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Five members of faculty received the Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Fellowships to Brandon University, Ryerson University, Brock University and Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Congratulations to Canadian Bound Scholars Recipients of the Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Fellowship Dr. Andrea Barrett, Lecturer Joan Duncan School of Ethics, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership (JDSEEL) College of Business and Management Dr. Barrett will be Visiting International Scholar in intellectual property, innovation, and technology management for three weeks during Academic Year 2019/2020 at the Institute for Innovation and Technology Management, Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, Ontario, Canada. Ms. Elecia Bethune, Lecturer School of Hospitality and Tourism Management College of Business and Management Ms. Bethune will be involved in professional development in the Global Summer School at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada during July 5 – 27, Academic Year 2019/2020. She will pursue a short course entitled Transformational Leadership and Advocacy in which participants will be exposed to topics regarding collaboration in a multi-stakeholder environment, and a teamwork approach to leadership and advocacy. Dr. Adella Campbell, Associate Professor and Head Caribbean School of Nursing College of Health Sciences Dr. Campbell will be Visiting International Scholar engaging in academic and professional development activities regarding Nursing in Canada with counterparts in the Nursing Department, Faculty of Health Studies, Brandon University, Manitoba, Canada, for three weeks during Academic Year 2019/2020. Deanna Marchalleck, Lecturer/Course Director School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Mrs Marchalleck will be visiting the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada for two to three weeks during Academic Year 2019/2020. Dr. Hope Mayne, Associate Professor School of Technical and Vocational Education Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies Dr. Mayne will be Visiting International Scholar conducting joint research on 21st Century teaching and learning and school curricula, for three weeks during Academic Year 2019/2020 at Brock University, Ontario Canada. Mrs. Rose Marie Headley-Smith, Lecturer School of Hospitality and Tourism Management College of Business and Management Mrs. Headley-Smith will be involved in professional development in the Global Summer School at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada during July 5 – 27, Academic Year 2019/2020. She will pursue the International Teaching Effectiveness Certificate short course in which participants will be exposed to approaches to delivery of student-centred teaching and learning, and design of curriculum and assessment, enabling participants to build their skills as scholar-practitioners, innovators, and researchers.
