My advice to new employees is to make good use of the opportunities that the University provides for your to grow in all areas.” Professor Nilza Aples , Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Computing 20 Years of Service “Twenty years at UTech, Jamaica have been quite a long and very challenging journey. You have to be prepared to give of yourself and to be able to work through many inadequacies and challenges, but if you have hope and a love for your country, you will succeed, because UTech, Jamaica is indeed a national treasure. When you can look beyond your challenges and make your investment, because your investment in UTech, Jamaica is not just for the surrounding walls of the institution but also for the greater good of the country. My advice to new staff is to come with a skill set and a willingness to work with other persons and to appreciate their differences. The appreciation of diversity is very important and also the willingness and the openness to training, to work with others and to respect others.” Mr. Hector Wheeler , Associate Vice President, Advancement Advancement Division 20 Years of Service VOICES OF LONG SERVICE AWARDEES “Two things - I really enjoy working with the students and working in an educational environment and I really enjoy the creativity, the ability to try new things and to do things better. I have tried to live by the motto, “Excellence Through Knowledge and it has been a fantastic journey. For new employees I would really encourage them to buy in to the motto because that is what we are about.” Dr. Claire Sutherland , Senior Director, International and Institutional Linkages Office of the President 20 Years of Service “It has been a pleasure. It has also been a challenge. I believe that UTech, Jamaica is a very good place to work. I am really proud to see our students and graduates progress into the world of work because of our contribution. It has really been a tremendous journey and I look forward to spending more years here contributing to Jamaica on a whole. I encourage new staff members to come and shape lives because it is important that we are role models for our students and to help them through their difficult times.” Mrs. Kadion Dunkley-Johnson , Executive Assistant, College of Oral Health Sciences 15 Years of Service “This is the national university and working here carries with it a certain degree of responsibility. As a member of the academic staff you are to give of your best because Jamaica deserves your best and especially for those young persons who are now at the University being trained. Working for the past 10 years at this institution my contribution has been to make it the best institution it can be. My advice to new staff is to continue the learning process.
