VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | April - June 2019 16 “My time spent at UTech, Jamaica has been worthwhile. You are a part of nation building when you interface with students and you transform their lives knowing that it is going to impact society. I am inspired to continue working and serving because I know the outcome will be great and I have been around for 30 years to see it. My advice to new staff is to stick to the University’s values because they are a good guide in terms of how they should operate as a functioning and contributing member of the UTech, Jamaica family.” Dr. Haldane Johnson , Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning Office of the Deputy President, Academic Affairs 30 Years of Service “What I have enjoyed most at UTech, Jamaica is working with both the academic and administrative staff. They have always made me feel welcome. For all the years that I have been here that is how I have always felt about the staff. My advice to new staff is to try to work hard, that is what I did. My 40 years here have been wonderful.” Mrs. Lezma Williamson-Rankin , Cleaner Attendant, Facilities Management Department 40 Years of Service “What I like most about working at UTech, Jamaica is the sense of family. We have to go beyond the professional collegiate relationship to one of family because this is where we spend most of our time. So my recommendation for going forward I would say, let us not lose the spirit of family, that ethos of love is something that we need to interweave in all that we do. My advice to new staff members is to find a mentor and not to get easily discouraged …there is always a solution that will meet your satisfaction. ” Mrs. Charmaine DeLisser , Senior Academic Director, Office of Technology, Data Applications and Development (OTDAD) School of Computing and Information Technology 35 Years of Service VOICES OF LONG SERVICE AWARDEES “The interaction with my students; my students have really kept me going.
