Computer Information Systems, Mrs. Sophia McNamarah in her overview said that the four- year course of study combines computing with business, management, data analytics and entrepreneurship and will equip graduates to design, create and effectively manage computer business solutions in a range of organizations. Mr Richard Barrett, Programme Director for the BSc. Computer Network and Security outlined that the programme will offer students two available majors in Cyber Security with emphasis on such areas as Critical Infrastructure, Data Protection and the Law and Cyber- Forensics and Auditing. The major in Virtualization Computing will focus on areas such as Hypervisor Management, Software Definition Networks and Modelling Cloud Business Solutions. T he University of Technology, Jamaica partnered with the European Union on June 6, 2019 for the viewing of one of the films which formed part of the EU’s 2019 International Film Festival. The film A Ciambra from Italy was shown at the University’s Lecture Theatre 48, Shared Facilities Building at the Papine Campus. In his welcome to guests, Mr Hector Wheeler, AVP – Advancement, who represented University President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie, said that UTech, Jamaica was honoured to be partnering with the EU on the staging of its Film Festival underscored “the immeasurable benefits of cultural exchanges.” He congratulated the EU for providing a significant number of our people with the opportunity to freely view and appreciate the creative works from distant and diverse cultures. Based on academic accomplishments and financial need, the four students shortlisted were awarded full scholarships. Tuition fees coupled with book grants and other much-needed supplies put the value of each scholarship at approximately $450,000. According to the Jamaica Observer, “the outstanding quartet made indelible impressions on the judging panel as they shared their passion for the culinary arts, their personal challenges and how they overcame them. The judging panel, headed by Observer Managing Director Julian Rogers and Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards conceptualiser Novia McDonald-Whyte, was very pleased with the calibre of the shortlisted students.” The panel also consisted of UTech, Jamaica Director of Student Financing Garcia Green-McLennon, Scholarship Officer Pauline Madourie and Food and Service Management Programme Director Camille Jackson.
