13 April - June 2019 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica O On April 29, 2019 the University hosted a delegation fom the World Bank, headed by Mr Axel Van Trotsenburg, the Bank’s Regional Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean Region. Ms Galina Sotirova, World Bank Country Manager for Jamaica and Ms Tahseen Sayed, Country Director for the Bank, and Ms Karlene Francis, Operations Officer at the Bank were also among the other Bank representatives present. The World Bank team visited the Animation Lab in the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) and were briefed by Ms Nadine Maitland, Programme Director, B.Sc. in Animation Production and Development, as well as by various students on aspects of the Animation programme at the University. President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie welcomed the World Bank team and thanked the Bank for its significant sponsorship of animation at the University valued at over J$45 million. Later in the afternoon, the World Bank hosted a youth forum on “Jamaica’s Economic and Social Progress: Challenges and Opportunities for Jamaican Youths” at the Shared Facilities Building.
