VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February - March 2019 28 Miss Carolyn Ferguson, Lecturer, Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing has received membership elevation to Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Senior Member is the highest professional grade of the IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires extensive experience, and reflects professional accomplishment and maturity. Only 10% of more than 400,000 members have achieved this level. Chef Khalil Campbell, Lecturer, School of Hospitality and TourismManagement has received the Outstanding Student Scientist Award sponsored by the Jamaica Energy Partners. He received the award while he was a recent student in the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies. Chef Campbell has further distinguished himself as a Chef and Educator par excellence as evidenced by his most recent internationally recognized professional certification designations: Certified Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation; Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) by the American Hotel and Lodging Association and ServSafe Certification by the National Restaurant Association. The Office of the Customer Service Advocate (OCSA) embarked on a new mystery shopping initiative last year called “Catch Me Delighting the Customer”. This initiative aims to raise the service bar by encouraging organizations to go beyond their customers’ average expectations. Mr. Noel Bennett, Security Guard from the main Administration Building was “caught” delighting the customer on several occasions. Some feedback from staff members on the service provided by Mr. Bennett describe him as being very pleasant, passionate about his job and for often going of his way to assist persons, for example providing umbrella escort service to the car park when it rains. Congratulations Mr. Bennett!
