Arlando Dunkley, University of Technology, Jamaica graduate student pursuing the Master of Science in Renewable Energy was awarded the 2019 Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) Renewable Energy Scholarship. The scholarship was presented on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the PCJ Auditorium in New Kingston. Congratulating Mr Dunkley on the occasion, are Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Fayval Williams (left) and the PCJ’s Acting Group General Manager, Brian Richardson. The engineering scholar, will receive a $2 million grant to cover the cost of tuition for his two year postgraduate programme. Arlando holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering and graduated with honours from UTech, Jamaica in 2016. During his undergraduate programme, Dunkley was a member of the University Public Speaking and Debating Society as well as the Association of Chemical Engineers. He is also the winner of the Best Chemical Engineering Major Project in 2016. Minister Williams encouraged Dunkley to use the knowledge gained upon completion of his studies, “not only for personal pursuits, but also to contribute to nation building. T he University of Technology, Jamaica through the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship (SGSRE) on March 14, 2019 led the staging of the University’s annual Research, Technology and Innovation Day held at the Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus. Under the theme, “Research and Innovation…Fuelling a Bright Future,” the one-day showcase comprised exhibits of research and innovation being undertaken by members of faculty, staff and students across the University’s five colleges and three faculties. A speakers’ forum with concurrent sessions featuring presentations by members of faculty, staff and student researchers who elaborated on their work was held throughout the day. Innovative industry leader, Mr Gary “Butch” Hendrickson, Chairman and CEO, Continental Baking Company and Coconut Bay Management in his well-received keynote address, highlighted the need for better use of technology and data to drive research and innovation in Jamaica.
