VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February - March 2019 20 M embers of the University of Technology, Jamaica Community on Sunday, March 31, 2019 were welcomed by the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Andrew to participate in its worship service, as part of activities marking the University’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. The church service was the final, official event in the year-long 60th Anniversary celebrations which began in March 2018. The Most Reverend Archbishop Kenneth Richards, Archdiocese of Kingston who delivered the Homily, in welcoming UTech, Jamaica, praised the institution for its “philosophy of the wholesome development of persons.” He encouraged staff and students to use the 60th Anniversary milestone as a time of self-assessment, and for a recommitment to the philosophy, vision and goals of the University in raising the institution to a higher level for the advancement of humanity. Ms Patricia Mahoney, Office of the President, read the 2nd lesson from 2nd Corinthians 5, 17 – 21. University President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie in his greetings thanked the congregation for warmly welcoming the University of Technology, Jamaica. He noted that the University has had a good year, which has included activities such as a series of Distinguished Lectures by the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, Governor-General, the Most Honourable Edward Seaga, UTech, Jamaica Chancellor and Former Prime Minister, Professor Colin Gyles, Deputy President and others. He said that the University welcomes the challenge by Archbishop Kenneth Richards to move the University forward to a higher level. The Fourth Sunday of Lent service was enriched by the participation of the UTech, Jamaica Choir led by Mr. Hugh Douse, Director. 60 th Anniversary Celebrations End with Church Service The Most Reverend Archbishop Kenneth Richards, Archdiocese of Kingston delivering the Homily at the Sts.
