VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February - March 2019 18 T he Caribbean School of Nursing (CSON), College of Health Sciences, (COHS) presented over 300 nursing and midwifery students with their symbolic stripes at striping ceremonies held on March 8, 2019 at the St. John’s Methodist Church Hall, Montego Bay, St. James and at the Christian Life Centre, Gordon Town, Papine on March 15, 2019 for the Papine and Western Campuses respectively. The symbolic stripe is presented to students enrolled in years 1 to 4 of the B.Sc. in Nursing and the B.Sc. in Midwifery courses of study who have met the academic and professional requirements of their respective levels of study and is also an acknowledgement of accomplishment, merit and good conduct. Students are expected to complete all modules by the end of each Semester of each academic year after which they are promoted to the next level. Awards for academic excellence were also presented to student nurses and midwives who attained a GPA of 3:45 and above for the 2017/2018 Academic Year. Dr. Janet Campbell-Shelly, Dean, College of Health Sciences in her remarks congratulated the students on their achievement and urged them to wear their stripes with honour.
