VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February - March 2019 14 F aculty of Law, UTech, Jamaica, kicked off its 10th Anniversary celebrations at a special launch ceremony on February 14, 2019 under the theme “10 Years…Reshaping the Legal Paradigm.” The occasion also saw the presentation of the inaugural Eric Frater Memorial Scholarship to two outstanding final year students of the Faculty of Law. Congratulating the Faculty of Law on its significant milestone, University President Professor Stephen Vasciannie, acknowledged the many individuals D r. Barrett in her presentation noted that education should not only cultivate intellect, or prepare people for the world of work to acquire material wealth, but that it should also result in preparing individuals who in turn can transform the social context in which they live. She argued that despite Jamaica’s tremendous progress in improving access and providing quality education to its citizenry, there are still too many students who are disengaged, unfulfilled, feeling excluded and insignificant. “We must respond with a supportive system, and a positive school climate that is accommodating of all students learning,” she recommended.
