VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | October - December 2018 22 B ased in Trinidad and Tobago, ACSAC is an organisation representing professional associations of architects in the Commonwealth Caribbean. The MoU collaboration is designed to preserve the identity of The Caribbean School of Architecture at UTech, Jamaica and its regional thrust to provide courses of study, field studies and professional training in Architecture. Among other arrangements, the MoU makes allowance for the inclusion of persons from the region in teaching and/or research; for identifying scholarships for students and placement in professional practice experience; exchange programmes for students and staff; external examiners support and the establishment of a Teaching/Research Fellowship fund. Dean, Dr. Garfield Young noted that the MoU collaboration with ACSAC will support the development of the Faculty’s PhD in The Built Environment with an option in architecture or other discipline offered by the Faculty. U Tech, Jamaica and Elhydro Limited on October 2, 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise collaboration in biodiesel production and research. The partnership will involve continuous research and development to identify and design innovative techniques for advancing biodiesel and Castor plant production and usage. Areas of collaboration and mutual interest are not limited to the production of B5 from domestically produced feedstock in the short term but will include the subsequent phase of higher Biodiesel blends such as B20/30 as well as continuous research and development to identify and design innovative techniques for the advancement in Biodiesel production and usage. The project at UTech, Jamaica is being spearheaded by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.
