VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | August 2018 30 O n July 6, 2018 the Early Childhood Commission (ECC) launched its early childhood intervention initiative – the 0-3 Age Cohort Strategy, on the grounds of the University of Technology, Jamaica’s Cynthia Shako Early Childhood Education and Daycare Centre, Papine Campus. The ECC has partnered with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information on the programme which focuses on the importance of a child’s cognitive development, by bringing greater emphasis on the formative years, from en utero to age 3. The EEC announced that the initial phase of the project will see the establishment of 126 Brain Builder Centres, two in each constituency across the island. Following the launch, The EEC presented the Cynthia Shako Early Childhood Education and Daycare Centre with its official certification documents, followed by a tour of the Centre by the Honourable Ruel Reid, CD, Minister of Education, Youth and Information who also delivered the main address at the launch.
