21 August 2018 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica 6 students get Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards scholarships S ix third-year students from the University of Technology, Jamaica, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management on Thursday, May 3, 2018 received full Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards scholarships to complete their final year courses of study. A feature of the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards scholarship programme is automatic placement as part of the work team for the annual awards extravaganza at Devon House. As an added incentive to the stipend received for working at the event, students were able to earn course credits towards the successful completion of their degree programme. The scholarships were first introduced in 2002 by McDonald-Whyte — a former lecturer in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management — who utilizes ticket sales from the annual staging of the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards to assist academically sound but financial needy students in the faculty. The judging panel is headed by Observer Managing Director, Mr Danville Walker, Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards and comprises Novia McDonald-Whyte, and Observer Opinion Editor Mr Miguel A Thomas, Camara Richards, Programme Director for Food Service Management, SHTM, Scholarship officer Mrs Pauline Madourie and Director of Student Financing, Mrs. Garcia Green-McLennon, UTech, Jamaica.
