17 June 2018 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica “I am challenged to use my skills and knowledge to advance the interests of my department and the wider university. Every day is different and I get to interact with a wide cross section of people. It means I am always learning.” Miss Akeilyah S. Buckley Administrative Support, Office of Procurement and Office Services 10 Years of Service “I joined UTech, Jamaica because I enjoyed the work, as a teacher and I believe that I can do something for UTech as well as Jamaica as a whole, especially in terms of our education. Also I believe I am fit for the job, and the job also works with my life and also the benefits. The benefits use to be good ones, compared to what we have now, but still negotiating for better benefits. When I joined UTech the salary was something like two times the high school salary so it was paying me well too, so that is one of the reasons I stick to UTech. I like teaching … especially mathematics, which is known to be a deficiency in Jamaica.” Mr. Biju Tom Manianghattu Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering and Computing 15 Years of Service “I like the wide range of folks to deal with on a daily basis, although at times some can be a bit of a challenge- as it relates to proper job scheduling.” Mr. Patrick Vassel Printery Supervisor, Finance and Business Services Division 20 Years of Service VOICES OF LONG SERVICE AWARDEES “Well for me, working at UTech, Jamaica is very good for me, because it helped me to finance my children’s education. It also has helped to finance my family. UTech, Jamaica also makes room for the growth of all employees. We meet people with different personalities and backgrounds every day. I have worked here for 20 years; I think it’s my home!” Mrs. Daphne Spencer Office Attendant, Facilities Management Department 20 Years of Service
