U Tech, Jamaica’s application to become a Study Centre for delivery of the (CIPS) qualifications was approved by that awarding body from March 10, 2017. The University’s strategic position with CIPS programmes was further enhanced with funding from the World Bank and the CDB for UTech, Jamaica to become a CIPS examination Centre. The University was accredited as an approved CIPS Examination Centre with effect from March 10, 2017. As an accredited Examination Centre this will allow candidates sitting the CIPS Examination to have the choice of using UTech, Jamaica as their examination centre and so provide Caribbean candidates with greater options. A bigail Scarlette, student, Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurships, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL) in the College of Business and Management was presented with the 2018 Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE) award in Community Service on Thursday April 26, 2018 at an award ceremony held at Terra Nova All Suite Hotel, St. Andrew. Abigail was nominated for the prestigious award by her Lecturer and mentor, Mr. Frederick Mills. Narrowed down to a short list of three nominees, Abigail was interviewed by a selection committee chaired by the Honourable Steadman Fuller, Custos Rotulorum for the Parish of Kingston. She emerged as the 2018 Governor General’s youth awardee for excellence in community service in the 18-24 age group category. This award is presented annually to young Jamaicans as a part of the Governor General’s “I-Believe” programme geared at heightening awareness, encouraging excellence and recognizing young persons’ involvement in community services nationally.
