VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | April 2018 18 A n exciting afternoon of competition showcasing the best of athletic teams from primary, preparatory, high schools and colleges/universities marked the 10th staging of the UTech, Jamaica annual Track and Field Classic held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the National Stadium. A 17-member team from the University at Albany, USA was also among the participating teams that lit up the stadium for the 4-hour meet which comprised 36 events on the track and field. The inclusive meet also included the participation of Jamaican paralympians. Exciting 10 th UTech, Jamaica Track and Field Classic The Edwin Allen High School Girls 4 x 100 M relay team impressed with their first place finish in 44.80 seconds ahead of Holmwood Technical High’s 45.27 seconds and third place finishers Hydel High School in a time of 45.95 seconds. UTech, Jamaica Knight Shimayra Williams clears the hurdle on her way to winning the women’s 100 M hurdles event in 13.54 seconds. PATRON OF THE MEET President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie (left) presents Mr. Errol K. Miller, Executive Chairman of the Flow Foundation with a plaque in his honour as Patron of the UTech, Jamaica 2018 Track and Field Classic. Mr. Miller, who is an avid sportsman, philanthropist and communicator was acknowledged for his work in making a difference in the lives of young persons, including the welfare of athletes. Sprint star Santana Rodriguez of University at Albany, USA eases into first place in the Women’s 100 M Dash College event, in a time of 12.11 seconds. Hon. Alando Terrelonge, Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Gender Affairs and Sport brought greetings on behalf of Minister Hon. Olivia Grange and declared the Meet open. MEDAL PRESENTATIONS
