VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | April 2018 16 I think they should work on getting more of the courses they offer and the degree programmes accredited. I know the process is to have a certain amount of graduates before the programme can be accredited but I think that should be their main focus. Name: Nicolette Peterkin Course of Study: Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science College/Faculty: Faculty of Science and Sport Following the launch of the university’s 60th Anniversary Celebrations on March 20, 2018 students were asked “How do you think UTech, Jamaica should mark its 60 th Anniversary?”” They can lower the fees because as a nursing student it’s really hard, especially now that I cannot go out to work - especially in the summer and December - so lowering the fees will perhaps make a difference. When doing our practicum we don’t actually get a stipend and we have to pay for everything. Name: Nicolette Hunt Course of Study: Bachelor of Science in Nursing College/Faculty College of Health Sciences Maybe they should do something charitable. UTech has been around a long time; they have gotten a lot of money, a whole lot of money over the years, so something charitable. Like more scholarships, add a couple more programmes for students who are in trouble, like lunch programmes maybe. Right now you only get lunch tickets twice per week; we could increase that. Maybe they can just show gratitude in celebrating by showing gratitude to the students. Name: Maurice Williams Course of Study: Bachelor of Laws College/Faculty: Faculty of Law I think UTech should mark its 60th Anniversary by having a little gathering at the national arena for students. This can help students get to know each other. Name: Kevaughn Douse Course of Study: Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship College/Faculty: College of Business and Management STUDENT VOICES We should have an expo on students’ work. Name: David Daley Course of Study: Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering College/Faculty: Faculty of Engineering and Computing
