VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February 2018 32 At the Sigma 5K “Queen Esther” UTech, Jamaica Knight Carrie Russell at the Winter Olympic Games, PyeongChang , South Korea A University of Technology, Jamaica team led by members of academic and administrative staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing participated in the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run held in Kingston on Sunday, February 18, 2018. The FENC team stood out in their brightly coloured 60th anniversary themed shirts as they pose for group pictures at Emancipation Park. The University of Technology, Jamaica community congratulates our UTech, Ja. Knight, Olympian Carrie Russell on her historic participation at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea as brakeman on the Women’s Bobsleigh team. The Women’s Bobsleigh Team finished 19th at the event which concluded on February 25, 2018. This was the first time a Jamaica women’s bobsleigh team was participating in the Olympics. Carrie Russell won gold in the 4x100 metres relay at the 2013 World Championships in Russia. The outstanding Olympian graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Studies in 2014. We salute you UTech, Jamaica Knight. Well done! University of Technology, Jamaica students pose with cast members of the Father Holung and Friends musical, Queen Esther, following a showing of the production held on November 19, 2017 at the National Arena. In support of the work of the Missionaries of the Poor charity organisation headed by Father Richard Ho Lung, President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie facilitated the purchase of 100 tickets for UTech, Jamaica students to attend the performance. The students benefitted from the rich cultural and religious experience.
