VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | February 2018 24 O n February 22, 2018, the University of Technology, Jamaica officially launched the University of Technology, Jamaica Press in the Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus. Members of academic and administrative staff from across the University’s colleges and faculties turned out to witness the historic launch of the University’s Press which commenced operations on February 1, 2018. At the launch, Professor Vasciannie provided an overview of its context and objectives. He noted that “the University of Technology, Jamaica Press represents an important effort to enhance research and publications at the University. We need the University Press to provide an outlet for University members into the publishing world.” Mr. Martin Henry, Manager, Projects and Operations in the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship has been tasked as Project Manager for the UTech, Jamaica Press, with an Editorial Advisory Board comprising staff drawn from faculty and administration. Mr Henry gave a detailed presentation on the operational matters of the Press. He noted that The Press will be “development-oriented, both in respect of the development of staff members, and in respect of its contribution to broad issues of development in Jamaica and the Caribbean.” The Editorial Advisory Board comprises the following persons: • Professor Stephen Vasciannie, CD Chairman • Mr. Martin Henry, School of Graduate Studies, Research & Entrepreneurship • Professor Vernon Buchanan, Professor of Engineering • Professor Fitzroy Henry, Professor of Public Health Nutrition • Dr. Kamilah Hylton, Associate Professor and Dean, Faculty of Science and Sport • Dr. Martin Schade, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies • Dr. Andrew Lamm, Head, Centre for Science-Based Research, Entrepreneurship and Continuing Studies • Dr. Marcia Williams, Senior Lecturer/Programme Director, BSc.
