15 October - November 2017 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica Academic Responsibilty Appointments... cont’d from page 15 FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND LIBERAL STUDIES Head of School, School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr Clover Jones-Mckenzie Dr Clover Jones- McKenzie has been appointed Head of School, School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies for one term, September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2020. Dr Jones-McKenzie joined the staff of the Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies seventeen years ago as a Lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013. She has served in a number of leadership and administrative positions in the Faculty, including Module Coordinator, Chair of the Divisional Quality Assurance Committee, Head of the Communication Division, and is the current Chair of the Faculty Community Service Committee. She has spearheaded a number of curriculum and research related projects within the Faculty, including a funded investigation which involved secondary school teachers and other stakeholders across Jamaica. Dr Jones-McKenzie is the holder of a PhD in Adult Language Education, and a Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of the West Indies, Mona. She received her early teacher training from the Shortwood Teachers’ College. She has a number of publications to her credit and is currently engaged in a number of research projects. COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES Head of School, School of Pharmacy Dr Andrea Daly Dr Andrea Daly has been appointed as Head of School, School of Pharmacy in the College of Health Sciences for one term, October 5, 2017 to October 4, 2020. Dr Daly was also promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer. Dr Daly was appointed Acting Head of the School of Pharmacy on November 1, 2016, assuming responsibility for the Bachelor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology and the Certificate for Pharmacy Technician courses of studies. Her responsibilities also include overseeing the overall operations of the UTech Pharmacy and CARPIN. Dr Daly served as Programme Director for the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme for five years and has actively served the College and the wider University through her participation in various Committees and projects. A registered Pharmacist since 1992, prior to joining UTech, Jamaica in 2009, Dr Daly served as Chief Pharmacist in private pharmacies. She is currently an Executive Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica and also serves the Society as Chair of Training. Dr Daly is the holder of a Doctor of Pharmacy from Ohio State University. FACULTY OF SCIENCE & SPORT Head of School, School of Mathematics and Statistics Mrs Ave Maria McIntosh Mrs Ave Maria McIntosh has been appointed as Head of School, School of Mathematics and Statistics (SOMAS) in the Faculty of Science and Sport for one term. This appointment will be for the period September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2020. Mrs. McIntosh joined the University thirty-four years ago as Lecturer in the then Faculty of Health & Applied Science and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1990. Her wealth of experience in leadership positions includes a six-year period as Head of the Mathematics and Statistics Division. Her organizational skills were also demonstrated in her role as Coordinator for the Social and Economic Statistics Certificate Course (SES) for over nine years. Students from this programme were recruited from different islands in the Caribbean and Mrs. McIntosh communicated directly with Chief Statisticians in the Caribbean Statistical Offices. As the Coordinator of the Cooperative Education Programme for SOMAS since October 2015, Mrs. McIntosh liaises with industry leaders to develop strategies and alliances locally. The holder of a Master of Science Degree in Management Science (Operational Research) from Lancaster University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics & Mathematics from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Mrs McIntosh is currently pursuing a PhD in Operational Research at Lancaster University.
