UTech, Ja Student Handbook 2019-2020

I am pleased to extend my warmest welcome to our new and returning students to the University of Technology, Jamaica. “You may never know what results will come from your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result.”Mahatma Gandhi. As we enter the AY 2019/20, I take this opportunity to encourage all students to make this Academic Year, a year filled with Academic Success and Personal Development. I however, must inform you that the road to success will not be easy, it will consist of sleepless nights, embarking upon new challenges and stepping outside of toxic relationships. Making these decisions may seem impossible, however, it is through these decisions that you reap academic success and make positive strides in your personal development. As a result in keeping with the above quote, I encourage all students to Never Give Up, Never Stop Chasing your dreams. Your dream can be to graduate with first class honours or even to become the President of the Students’ Union Council, it’s possible. The only way your goals will come to fruition is by you taking action. It’s always better to try and fail than to never try. Therefore in classes – partici- pate, in Clubs and Societies- participate, in Interfaculty Events – participate. Don’t ever let an oppor- tunity pass you, not only for this Academic Year but for the remainder of your life. The Students’ Union Council is a cohort of student-elected and appointed members whose mandate is, “To Serve and To Represent”. As a result we represent students at all democratic levels within the University Community. The Council is also mandated to co-ordinate and host all interfaculty events- I should also add that this year we will have an overall “Faculty of the Year”, therefore participation is expected from all students. I will end with this quote “Try your best to stand outside, that way if someone asks for you, you will be outstanding.” I want to use this medium to extend welcome to all new and returning students for the AY 2019/20 on behalf of the Students Union Council as you pursue “Excellence through Knowledge”.
