R E S O L U T I O N O F S T U D E N T - S U P E R V I S O R C O N F L I C T S During students’ supervision, conflicts may arise. It is desirable that these are addressed and settled as quickly as possible within stu- dents’ College/Faculty. If the problem is an irrec- oncilable personality clash between a supervisor and a student, or where the devel- opment of the research topic reveals that a supervisor’s area of expertise is no longer rel- evant, then the student or his/her supervisor may request a change of supervision without discredit to either party. The student or his/her supervisor may request that the Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Coordi- nator nominates a replacement supervisor with the approval of the Board of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship. Where prob- lems are more complex, the resources of the University’s Counselling Unit may be utilized, if indicated. For problems that remain unre- solved, the student should state the grievance in writing to the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship, which will determine the most appropriate way to resolve the matter. “ E X C E L L E N C E T H R O U G H K N O W L E D G E ” E X A M I N A T I O N S 133
