I t is my pleasure to welcome new and returning students for the 2019/2020 Academic Year. As you embark on a new phase of your academic journey of life-long learning, I applaud you for your decision to pursue your tertiary studies at Jamaica’s premier national university where “Excellence through Knowledge,” is our hallmark. This hallmark of excellence is undergirded in the Mission of the University – “To positively impact Jamaica and the wider Caribbean through high quality learning opportunities, research and value added solutions to government, industry and communities.” You have joined an institution with a 60-year history and an undisputed reputation for producing graduates who are industry-ready and who are making their mark in their various fields of endeavor in Jamaica, the Caribbean region and across the world. As a testament to the high quality of our academic programmes, the University was awarded Institu- tional Accreditation by the University Council of Jamaica with effect from February 2018 for a period of 7 years. This stamp of approval also means that we are committed to delivering quality education at international standards. During your sojourn at UTech, Jamaica, I encourage you to participate in the many enriching educa- tional, cultural, sporting and community service programmes available to you.
