UTech Annual Report 2019-20

University of Technology, Jamaica 94 Alumni Mingle on April 4, 2019, with guest speaker Professor Stephen Vasciannie, President, who spoke in Institutional Accreditation, and provided general updates on the University. y The Alumni Relations Office negotiated a 15% training discount for members for the UTech, Jamaica Alumni and University Community from Internet Income Jamaica through Mr. Kemar Harris, Alumnus, in January 2020. y The Alumni Association, New York Chapter, hosted a Chapter meeting in Bronx, New York on October 12, 2019. To Connect Alumni to the Student Body The Alumni Relations Office supported the Student Services coordination of the University’s Mentoring Programme through recruitment of new and returning mentors. The Mentor Cohort represents professionals from the public, private and non-government sectors. The majority of UTech, Jamaica mentors are Alumni. There were 78 mentors for Academic Year 2019/20 on record, with 45 who were Alumni (58%). The Alumni Relations Office successfully sensitized the student body to the role of Alumni in the life of the University by supporting their events or helping them with challenges, with the following highlights: y Networked alumni with students and provided professional development support, e.g. supporting recruitment of volunteers for Accounting Seminar mock interviews. y Promoted the Students’ Union “Teach the Youth” annual summer programme to the Alumni Community to solicit donations. y Supported the Co-Operative Education Professional Development Series by sourcing Alumni to serve as guest speakers. y Addressed students at the Annual Final Year International Student Reception y Supported the Annual Orientation week with distribution of 610 tokens for freshmen, and took photos and videos for the Student Services archives. y Supported Annual Open House 2019 by sourcing over fifty volunteers, including staff-alumni and students. y Facilitated invitation of Alumnus Mr. George Davis, Broadcaster and President, Press Association of Jamaica, to serve as guest speaker at the Western Campus’ Orientation 2019/202 in August 2019. y Facilitated invitation of Alumna Mrs. Claudette Gordon-McFarlane, Director of Human Capital, Advancement Division Cont’d.
