University of Technology, Jamaica 93 facilitated a donation of 122 books on Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and related subjects to the Calvin McKain Library. The Alumni Relations Office successfully nominated Mrs. Hermine Metcalfe, Pharmacy Alumna, for the Distinguished Past Student’s Award 2019. The award was presented at the 49th Annual University Awards Ceremony, held on May 30, 2019. The Alumni Relations Office supported the Division of Student Services & Registry with graduation preparation for the Class of 2019/20. The Office contributed Alumni Association, UTech, Jamaica membership applications forms, and alumni tokens, for the graduation packages. In addition, Mr. Hector Wheeler, Associate Vice President, Advancement, addressed graduates at the Graduation Rehearsal, to sensitize them to the benefits of remaining connected to the University, post-graduation. A total of 698 photos of graduates were taken and shared by the Alumni Relations Office on social media with graduates and their family and friends. Mr. Clive “Kali Niabingy” Drummond, Interim President, Alumni Association, New York paid a courtesy call to the Office of the President, where he met with Professor Colin Gyles, Deputy President, Mr. Hector Wheeler, AVP, Advancement and Ms. Cheryll Messam, Alumni Relations Manager, where Mr. Drummond shared an update on the revitalization of the New York Chapter. Alumni were offered a variety of personal and professional development opportunities through which to connect to the University such as: y Volunteer opportunities as mentors, and guest speakers at student events; notification of job opportunities from corporate Jamaica; as well as job search and career management consultations. y Provision of marketing support to the alumni affiliates e.g. Alumni Association, Chapters and Special Interest Groups and faculties, by promoting their events to the alumni community and connecting alumni with the affiliates to increase engagement. y Sharing of UTech, Jamaica-branded Calendars with Alumni who expressed interest via social media. y During the period, Alumni shared monetary and non-monetary donations to support the development of the University. The major donor was the UTech, Jamaica Foundation, which donated $7.2 M in scholarship funds, followed by the Vernon and Leila Robinson Foundation, which gave $300,000.00 in scholarships for two pharmacy students. To Connect Alumni to Each Other Alumni engagement with their fellow alumni colleagues was facilitated as follows: y Social media was used to share updates and encourage dialogue within the Alumni Community on University, Alumni and National and International news items. y The University hosted an Alumni Meet Up Networking Event with online access in October 2019, on the topic “How to Create Online Income”, presented by Mr. Kemar Harris, Alumnus, School of Information Technology and Computing (SCIT). Sixty-eight alumni attended online, with seventeen on site (85 total participants). y Personalized networking introductions between Alumni were facilitated to support job hunting and business development goals. Additionally, the Alumni Association, UTech, Jamaica hosted an Mr. Aldrick McNab, Council Member, UTech, Jamaica presents Mrs. Hermine Metcalfe, Registered Pharmacist and member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica and The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain with the Distinguished Past Student Award. The Distinguished Past Student award is presented to a past student in recognition of his/her contribution to the ongoing development of the University.
