Three members of UTech, Jamaica’s rugby league team- Tevin Dixon, Jenson Morris and Kile Nembhard took part in national team training camps and participated in competitive matches during England’s tour of Jamaica in July 2019. At the 2019 Penn Relays, UTech, Jamaica was the runner- up (2nd) in the Championship of America (COA) 4×200m Relays for both men and women and third in the COA Shuttle Hurdles Relay. Kasheika Cameron also placed third in the 100m for College Women invitational. Miss Neethu Manianghattu, third year Actuarial Science student was granted a scholarship award from the Government of Canada Emerging Leaders in the Americas Programme for 2019. Community Service CAPE Physical Education Workshop The Faculty hosted its second annual CAPE PE Workshop in November 2019 at both the Papine and Western Jamaica campuses. Both workshops were endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. Use of Facilities for Community Sports The Department of Sport continues to waive the rental fees for the following groups to use the facilities: y The Papine High School cricket team uses our pitch for their ISSA fixtures. The school’s track and field team regularly trains and works out with the UTech, Jamaica track and field team. Additionally, the Department has provided groundsmen to assist Papine High School with work on their pitches as needed. y Special Olympics of Jamaica athletes continue to use the pool for swim training on weekends. y Deaf Sport Jamaica’s football team continues to use the front field for training for local and international competitions such as the 2020 and 2021 Deaf World Cup and Deaflympics. y Mona Prep track team continues to use our field to prepare for Inter-Prep Champs competition and Invitational Meets. y Jamaica Volleyball Association U-18 girls used the auditorium/outdoor court for training for the Caribbean Tournament July 2019.
