Football Coaching Symposium On July 19 and 20, 2019, the Faculty through CSOSS in collaboration with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation hosted a Football Coaching Symposium at the Shared Facilities Building, UTech, Jamaica Papine Campus under the theme “Shifting Focus, Changing the Game”. During the two-day football coaching symposium, speakers and participants deliberated on the changes in football and the way forward for Jamaica. Speakers included Mr. Etienne Siliee, CONCACAF Development Manager, who led the discussion on Trends of the Modern Game and how the Identity of the Jamaican Sporting DNA can be a game changer. Other speakers were Mr. Theodore Whitmore, Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team, Mr. Wendell Downswell, Technical Director, JFF, Mr. Hue Menzies, former Head Coach of Jamaica’s Senior Women’s team and Mr. Laurence Garriques, Lecturer, FOSS. Badminton Sport Summer Camp The Faculty staged another summer camp with 80 campers and 16 counsellors. Collaboration with Jamaica Badminton Association resulted in the donation of equipment to campers and provision of a coach to teach the young campers the rudiments of the sport. Mathematics Quiz Competition The 3rd Annual Mathematics Quiz Competition was held in November 2019 under the theme, “Mathematics, the Lifeline to a Bright Future”. Twenty-four high schools from across Jamaica sat the written paper where Manchester High, Campion College, Immaculate Conception High and Knox College moved on to the semi-finals. Knox College defeated Campion College in the final to take the winners’ trophy and the $150,000 cash prize. Collaborations/International Linkages Memorandum of Understanding with the JFF The memorandum of understanding between the Jamaica Football Federation and the University through the Faculty of Science and Sport remains in place.
