Jamaican culture and to celebrate the contributions of students of UTech, Ja. to service. Approximately 420 students, guests and representatives of 12 agencies attended the Conference. Campus Wide Community Service Initiatives Calvin McKain Library On March 9, 2019 the Calvin McKain Library hosted a benefit performance of the play “ Romi & Juli” at the Centre Stage theatre. The event was in aid of the Kenton Hardy Memorial Scholarship Fund. Part of the requirement is that all applicants must be actively participating in community service. College of Health Sciences (COHS) The College of Health Sciences (COHS) held a Health Fair on November 22, 2018 on the front field of the Papine Campus. The various units from COHS manned booths which provided information and performed basic screening health exercises. Patrons from the University and neighboring communities availed themselves of the available services. Faculty of The Built Environment Mrs. Denice Ramharrack, Lecturer in the Caribbean School of Architecture coordinated trips to Holywell where students volunteered to assist with the maintenance of the park by planting trees, watering areas and ensuring the overall environmental health of the space. Faculty of Science and Sport In December 2018 the Faculty of Science and Sport (FOSS) Community Service Committee embarked on a book drive in aid of the Jamaica National Children’s Home. They collected dozens of books and selected the most appropriate ones for handing over to the children’s home. In December, the FOSS team also conducted a donation drive on behalf of the children’s home and collected clothing and toys for contribution to the home. The welfare committee has also taken steps towards getting volunteers from the Sport Science student cohort to assist in training the children at the home in cricket and football. School of Business and Administration (SOBA) • On November 29, 2018 SOBA held the Annual Economics High School Workshop. The workshop is free for high school students and their teachers who were preparing for the CSEC and CAPE Units 1 and 2 Economics exams. Two hundred (200) students from eleven high schools participated in the workshop, where they were given several tips on how to prepare and maximize their score on their Economics examination. The main goal of the breakout sessions was to use creative teaching and learning strategies to assist students with the Economics topics they find most challenging. • The Production and Operations Management Seminar group visited the National Children’s Home on February 23, 2019. They donated bedding, kitchen and personal care items for the children. • The Accounting Seminar group visited Padmore High school students at a CAPE workshop.
