Annual Awards Ceremony Forty students were presented with awards for outstanding performance in modules across the various year groups during the academic year 2016/2017, as well as, for their contribution to the Faculty at the Faculty’s Annual Awards ceremony held on April 4, 2018 at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel. Guest speaker was Mr. Terrence Williams, Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). For the Academic Year 2016/17, Mr. Maurice Lewin was recognized as the Student of the Year for the Papine Campus and Ms. Antoinette Burton Steer for the Montego Bay campus. A special Award was presented to Mr. Alfred McPherson, former Dean of the Faculty, for his contribution as Dean of the Faculty. 10th Anniversary Celebrations On February 14, 2019, the Faculty officially launched its 10 anniversary celebrations at the Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus. The recipients for the inaugural Eric Frater Memorial Scholarship were also announced at this event. The theme for the year- long celebration was ‘10 Years...Reshaping the Legal Paradigm.’ The scholarship awardees were: Ms Deneil Alvaranga and Mr Danmar Clarke. Public Lecture The Faculty of Law in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS) hosted a Human Rights Seminar on April 25, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at the Papine Campus. The guest speaker was Ms. Tracy Robinson, Former President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Ms. Robinson spoke on the topic “Inter-American System of Human Rights for all the Americas, including the Caribbean. Three students from the Faculty, namely; Mr. Daniean McCulloch, Ms. Jesicuese James and Mr. Ainsworth Levy as well as Mr. Raun Barrett, Coach, participated in the Caribbean Court of Justice Mooting Court Competition in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on March 21, -22, 2019. Despite a commendable performance and commendation for their skeleton arguments, the score resulted in a tie between UTech, Ja.
